HISTORY
Screen printing is a printing technique that uses screens to transfer colors and it is most commonly used to make clothes.
During the history, the method was also used to create works of art – in the twentieth century, screen printing went mainstream because of Andy Warhol! He used the method to create his, today very popular, works of art. Aside from Warhol, other famous artists also used it for the same purposes.
What many people don’t know is that screen printing is one of the oldest printing methods. It all started in ancient China… From there, it spread to Asia. It arrived in Europe in the eighteenth century. In the twentieth century, S. Simon patented the technique in England. Throughout its history, screen printing technique hasn’t changed much because it didn’t have to — it simply works. In the future, it is to expect it won’t change a lot. What we will probably be able to see in the future are tools that will optimize the process.
THE PROCESS
Regardless if it is performed by a machine or a person, the process is pretty much the same. Firstly, the artwork has to be created.
Screen printing is a technique that needs colors to be placed on one layer each, so designers need to operate with applications that allow them to separate the colors like Photoshop, Illustrator and Corel Draw. The artwork should be saved at 300 d.p.i. quality. Vectors are preferred to pixels because they are easier to handle. Compatible formats are PSD, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, GIF, and BMP.
In this method, the ink is pressed against a mesh or stencil to print a specific design on the desired material. The liquid only transfers to the parts the screen permits. Since only one color can be used at a time, a different screen must be made for each one. Screens can be used again if they’re washed carefully.
FABRICS & COLORS
When it comes to fabrics, natural fabrics are better than synthetic ones – they absorb liquids better. Our advice is – stick to cotton. If you want something more affordable, the best choice would be a blend of cotton with something like polyester. The less colorful a design is, then the cheaper it will be to produce. This method works better for larger orders.
Here at Masaprint, we use plastisol and water-based colors, print up to 14 colors in a range of sizes up to 50×70 cm and have the experience required to produce great-looking prints on most fabric types.
We help you choose the best, and we never fail to meet your needs. Contact us for more details and find out how we can cooperate.
Personalization and print on demand are at the moment trending in the printing business. We thought it would be fun to look back at their history.
PRINT ON DEMAND
Print on demand is a somewhat new way of printing which means that nothing really gets printed until your client orders it.
Textile printing has been here for a long time (before the year 220 in China), but it became widespread in Europe in the 12th century.
Fast forward to the 20th century when Michael Vasilantone figured out a new way of doing screen-printing that was significantly faster. The enhanced speed meant it was easier to produce one-of-a-kind designs, and it was the start of print on demand.
By the 1980s, printers became accessible to people, and from here print on demand really took off.
It began with paper and slowly developed to textile – which we call today direct-to-garment printing. The first real DTG printer was named ‘Revolution’, and it became available in the 90s.
There are various ways that textiles can get printed today.
The most popular ones include digital textile print, which uses inkjets to print directly on a garment; roller printing, based on 18th-century technology to stamp designs onto fabric; and screen printing, which uses stencils and mesh to push ink into a fabric.
PERSONALIZATION
One of the biggest trends currently running the textile market is personalization. This indicates we can anticipate seeing a lot more one-off prints on T-shirts and other clothing items in the not-so-distant future!
If you need anything personalized, just ask away! We will be happy to help you figure out the best print technique for your needs. A reliable supplier can help you take care of the whole process from start to finish. We can print and fulfill your orders and drop-ship them, which means you can focus on what you love doing while knowing your printing gets taken care of in knowledgeable hands.
Today you will find it hard to find a wardrobe that does not have at least one t-shirt.
The future of the t-shirt is great. It is a great fashion detail, a basic piece of clothing but also a walking jumbo poster. New innovative printing technologies make it possible to turn any type of shirt into a brand new product.
HOW TO START

We have an exciting announcement to make – a few members of our staff visited the FESPA 2019 fair in Muenchen.
As always, we love to change the usual way of thinking about promotional products to meet the needs even of the most demanding customers.
That’s why we were so thrilled to attend and check out the latest – we went to Muenchen to further our education and to make sure we always follow the current trends.
FESPA 2019 is Europe’s largest international wide format professional printing exhibition, where over 700 exhibitors showcase their latest innovations and product launches in the digital and screen printing sectors for graphics, signage, décor, packaging, industrial and textile applications.
FESPA Global Print Expo this year covered six halls of the Munich Messe, Germany from 14-17 May. It showcased the latest products and solutions for screen, digital and textile print.
Again, it was conveniently co-located with the European Sign Expo for non-printed visual communication solutions.
We were excited to attend and we expected it to be a vibrant, action-packed event which will show that specialty print and signage are sectors that never stop inventing, exploring, pushing boundaries and looking for new ways to achieve growth.
Of course, we weren’t disappointed.
In that spirit, and since we didn’t take any pictures (we were too busy exploring and learning new things), we are presenting you with some video highlights.
In two videos below you can check out some of the highlights of Europe’s largest exhibition for screen and digital wide format print, textile printing and signage. But before you do, don’t forget to contact us here if you need a full range of textile printing services and solutions – from design and sampling to printing, finishing, packaging, and logistics.

Not a while ago, we received great news from one of our customers – Safilo Group.
If you are not familiar with Safilo, here is a little introduction… Safilo is the fully integrated Italian eyewear creator and worldwide distributor, a leader in the premium sector for sunglasses, optical frames, and sports eyewear. Safilo translates extraordinary design into excellent products. The company’s portfolio encompasses proprietary brands – Carrera, Polaroid, Smith, Safilo and Oxydo – and licensed brands Dior, Fendi, Banana Republic, Bobbi Brown, BOSS, BOSS Orange, Elie Saab, Fossil, Givenchy, Havaianas, Jack Spade, Jimmy Choo, Juicy Couture, Kate Spade New York, Liz Claiborne, Love Moschino, Marc Jacobs, Max Mara, Max&Co., Moschino, Pierre Cardin, Rag&Bone, Saks Fifth Avenue, Swatch, and Tommy Hilfiger.
Safilo is also our longtime business partner, who informed us of our supplier’s estimate for 2018, an estimate which we would like to share with you. The reason why we are sharing this – as you can suspect – we got a very big rating. 🙂
The company has introduced a system of supplier estimation through which they would like to assess the ability of suppliers to comply with their requirements and suppliers willingness to improve the quality of deliveries. The purpose of the estimation is to obtain a detailed picture of each supplier as well as to assure the improvement of co-operation in the future. Supplier’s estimation is prepared at the beginning of each year for the previous year.
In 2018 this estimation was prepared by Purchasing Dept., Technical Dept. and Quality System Dept. based on the following criteria:
- Technical cooperation
- Accuracy of deliveries
- Claims
- Response and flexibility
- Payment terms
- Supplier’s Quality System
Each criterion is valued with 0, 2 or 4 points with corresponding ponder. When all points are summed, they can classify their suppliers into 4 groups as follows:
– A very capable supplier (from 3,34 to 4,00 points; supervision is not necessary)
– B adequate capable supplier (from 2,67 to 3,33 points; suitable supervision is necessary)
– C transitive capable supplier (from 2,01 to 2,66 points; improvements are necessary)
– D incapable supplier (from 0,00 to 2,00 points; change of supplier is necessary)
For the year 2018 Masaprint was classified the group A supplier, with achieved points 3,50.
We would like to thank Safilo for the good business co-operation, and point out we are looking forward to a future successful co-operation!

Here at Masaprint, we often feel the need to bend the rules a bit and use some of the less traditional color palettes and print effects for anything that decorates or covers. We feel like it brings that little something extra. After reading the text below, you’ll agree to agree.
In this blog, we will write about what colors in combination with what special effects we successfully used to draw attention and make people want to look twice. Keep reading about the unique combinations that worked well for us, and prepare to be inspired…
1. 3D Silver & Gold
We’ve seen this color combo countless times on different things, but we don’t see it as much on apparel.
If there was any worry that these colors don’t mix well though, the photo above should put that to rest.
This note imprint pulls off looking right on point while still adding shine and strangeness, making it distinct and refreshing without looking unpleasant.
2. Puffed Black & White & Red
Black and white are the most commonly used colors on the color wheel, and a lot of people recognize they pair well together.
As much as black and white provide balance to each other, sometimes they can make a boring combination.
On the other hand, when you pair black and white with a bright red and a puffed print, things change drastically.
Suddenly, you get the semi-retro, semi-rock and roll, and semi-street art sneakers print which makes for a loud, distinctive outlay. Love it!
3. Silver Blue Explosion
Special effects overload!
Trying to pair a lot of colors together can get tricky. But what about when you try to pair a lot of special effects together?
Apparently, you get an impressive tiger such as one the picture above. This combo is icy, bright, fun, and will be sure to stand out (in a good way).
Do you like what you see? Or you need something really special?
You imagine, we do. We specialize in wholesale of textiles and promotional items, as well as custom made products.
The finest quality of the final result, satisfied customers and exceeded expectations are our priorities.
Contact us with confidence! At the end of the day, we are always looking for new challenges.
At the beginning of January, we were a part of the brilliant interplay of three trade shows, PROMOTEX (the international trade show for promotion, sports, and workwear), PSI (leading European insider event for the promotional products industry) and VISCOM (Europe’s leading trade fair for visual communication).
The setting was in Düsseldorf, and this was the first European-wide event of this type in 2019.
PromoTex Expo celebrated a debut as a new central hotspot for all things advertising and selling.
Naturally, that was our scene, and we booked our booth promptly. We were happy to come and play (read: present our work and craft for a total of 13,217 trade visitors from 39 nations).
Apart from us, 127 other exhibiting companies also came to present promotional, sports and workwear as well as textile decoration services.
Masaprint corner was situated at BOOTH 13G61 in Hall 13, a hall filled with creativity and inspiration.
Check out how our booth looked:
Awesome, right? You could not miss us since we were the only booth with a cool skeleton all dressed up in promotional products…
…and since we were the only booth with an impressive brick wall full of artwork.
As for all facts and figures of PromoTex Expo 2019, we won’t give you a full report, we will only say THANK YOU!
Thank you to all the wonderful people who stopped by our exhibition stand with full interest and enthusiasm. You made PromoTex Expo 2019 an absolute highlight of the year for us!
Many international visitors at our booth left us feeling satisfied as we left the show with a remarkably positive sentiment.
It was a good mix, and it was a really good show for us!
Remembering all the excellent talks, we are hoping to see you all in person again!
In the meantime, or if you missed us at the fair, you can get in touch with us HERE!
